BrandAlley Sales Surge Driven by Mobile Shopping
According to BrandAlley, mobile sales are the reason behind the increase in online sales across the first half of 2012 which has seen a 20% rise in revenue
BrandAlley the private sales "etailer" has reported that the first half of 2012 has seen a 20% rise in revenue, with mobile shopping being the main reason for the increase. The mobile site for BrandAlley was only launched in February, so the effects of the increased mobile sales may not yet be in full swing.
With the new mobile site now fully functional over a million shoppers now visit via their smartphones or tablet computers, many have even been put into the bracket of "commuter shoppers" as they shop and buy between 7 and 9am whilst on their way to work on buses and trains although the biggest spenders don't head online until after 7pm.
The CEO of BrandAlley, Rob Feldmann announced his delight at the figures as retail continues to be a notoriously difficult market. The average basket size has increased by a substantial 21% up to £76, which the company puts down to the strengthened range of homeware, fashion and beauty products, although combining this increased product range with the new mobile function is probably more likely as to what has really caused the surge.
June is a notoriously difficult month for retailers, even more so this year with it being a particularly wet month, but this only aided BrandAlley, as with more people staying in to shop online and reaching for their mobile devices rather than their raincoats, online stores will experience a boom, in BrandAlley's case, a boom of 60%.
Back in may, the site launched a new discount outlet site, which will run alongside its private sales portion, which has in turn expanded the company's product range which now includes books, sporting goods and gifting products. This increase will have drawn in new customers who have never used BrandAlley before and offered existing customers more from a brand that they already know and trust.
